FAQ

Many of our clients have a few similar questions which we would like to address below.
What is the minimum amount that can be spent on a custom engagement ring in order to work with DBK?

Yes, we work with most center stones whether provided by you or purchased through us. We do not charge an additional fee to set your existing diamond in one of our bespoke settings.

How long does the process typically take?

Designs By Kamni can work under any time frame. We recommend allowing 4-8 weeks from the proposal date to begin the process so that we can select the perfect diamond for your criteria and custom make the setting, however, Designs By Kamni can have it complete in a short time frame if needed. It can be as short as a 24 hour turn around time from the selection of the center stone. Click here for more information about our step by step process.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, paypal, bank checks, and bank wires. If you prefer to pay by cash or Chase Quickpay, this is also an option. To set this up please email [email protected]

Will I be charged sales tax?

What is your return policy?

We have a no refund policy due to the extremely specific nature and design process. However, we are more than happy to exchange an item if there is something wrong with the order or if the product has a defect.

How do I insure the engagement ring?

Based off of the appraisal certificate Designs By Kamni will provide to you, you can add a policy to an existing insurance policy such as a homeowner's insurance policy or you can purchase a separate policy for jewelry. Designs By Kamni recommends using Jeweler's Mutual if you prefer purchasing a separate policy.

How should I care for me Designs By Kamni jewelry?

Fine jewelry is delicate and needs to be care for accordingly. Here are some tips:

  • Wear your jewelry like shoes. Put it on before leaving home and take it off upon arriving home.
  • Avoid wearing your jewelry while showering, applying lotion/perfume, exercising, washing dishes, sleeping.
  • Diamond jewelry can be cleaned by gently scrubbing the gold and diamonds with a soft toothbrush and dish soap.

We do! We ship our items insured via FedEx. International orders may be subject to taxes, customs, duties and fees levied by the destination country and the recipient will be responsible for these fees.

Why should I choose Designs By Kamni over a normal jewelry store?

We pride ourselves on the 1 on 1 consultation and service we provide for our clients. We differentiate ourselves from the typical jewelry store by constant contact, dialogue, and input to and from our clients. We are not here to just sell an engagement ring, but rather create a special experience. DBK makes sure that every single ring is custom to you and your needs.

Are all of your diamonds conflict free?

We do not sell or promote the use of conflict diamonds. All of our diamonds are conflict free.

Do you sell men’s wedding bands?

Yes, we do and we can customize these too! Designs By Kamni can provide a catalog to show you a variety of wedding bands, additionally, if you have a design, share it with us and we can work with our design team to create it for you. Designs By Kamni also does custom engravings at no additional charge.

I live in Texas, would you be able to design my engagement ring?

Absolutely. Designs By Kamni has worked with many clients based outside of New York. We can communicate through text, email, Skype, and facetime to still get that one on one client interaction. Once the center stone and setting are complete, the engagement ring would be mailed using next day delivery service and insured upto the appraisal value of the ring at no additional cost to you. Rest assured, your valuable item is in good hands from start to finish.

I don’t know my gf’s finger size, what do I do?

We can size her if she is part of the process, otherwise, we recommend bringing in one of her old rings to use as a gauge. Alternatively, the ring can be made in the standard size, which is 6, and be re-sized at one time throughout the life of the ring at no charge to you. Beads can also be placed into the ring if it is too big if you do not want to re-size it. All metals can be altered to fit, so rest assured Designs By Kamni will take care of it.

Do you upgrade diamonds or take trade-ins?

Absolutely! If you have a diamond engagement ring which you would like to upgrade to a larger size or better color or clarity we will evaluate and add your current diamond's value towards the new engagement ring. If you want to change the setting and keep your current diamond, we can help with that too.

What type of certifications do you place on your diamonds?

We follow the industry standard and all of our diamonds are GIA Certified unless otherwise specified. GIA is the gold standard in the diamond industry, but we can have certified stones acquired with EGL, HRD, IGI, and private certificates upon request.

Do you have qualified gemologists on staff?

Absolutely. Our entire staff has graduated from GIA with a Graduate Diamonds and/or Graduate Gemologist Degree. On top of these qualifications, our staff has appraised over 30,000 diamonds collectively over the course of the last few years.

Do you have any references or any professional affiliations?

We are members of JBT, IWJG, GIA Alumni, BBB, Polygon, and more trade specific affiliations. We can provide an endless list of references upon request.

Do you work with family heirloom diamonds?

Yes, we work with most center stones whether provided by you or sourced by us. We do not charge an additional fee to set your existing diamond in one of our bespoke settings.

I have my own diamond, how much is it to have it set in one of your custom made rings?

We do not charge a setting fee. We spend hours setting the center stone under microscope and there is no additional charge for this service.
